More Details of some of the 1998 Winners

Photo by Marc Henrie | The Best of Variety Persian Adult and Supreme Adult was Supreme UK Grand Champion Rosjoy Goldentouch, a Red Colourpoint Longhair owned and bred by Joyce Pickford. His pet name is Midas. He is an extremely loving cat and rolls over to greet Joyce every time that she goes down the garden. He always has a girl living with him for company in his own centrally heated/double glazed/fully insulated stud house. He enjoys a varied diet of raw and canned meat, but his favorite is raw steak. Midas has had an unbeaten show career and made to Champion and to Grand Champion all in just six shows. Joyce brought him back onto the show bench for the first time this year at the Colourpoint Cat Club Show in October, where he won all his classes and overall Best in Show. He seems to keep his condition all the year round and almost always looks ready to go to a show, as his coat seems to sparkle. | | Midas is not the only winner in his family - his two litter sisters, Rosjoy Goodasgold and Rosjoy Fancythat have both made up to Grand this year. Midas has sired some beautiful kittens. His first, Rosjoy Toohot Tohandle, has made to champion in just three shows and two more outstanding kittens from him will shortly be appearing on the show bench.
This is not Joyce's first Supreme success - she owned and bred the 1987 Supreme Adult, Supreme Grand Champion Rosjoy Rambo - but this year was a double success because she also bred..... |

Photo by Marc Henrie | The Best of Variety Persian Neuter and Supreme Neuter - Supreme UK Grand Premier Rosjoy Buttermeup, a Red Colourpoint Longhair owned by Sandra Meggison. "Angus" is three and a half years old and made up to Grand Premier at the 1997 Supreme Show, where he was beaten for Best of Breed by the 1997 Supreme Neuter. He usually attends about 8 shows a year: so far this season he has won the Grand at all of his three shows - South Western where he was Best Longhair Neuter, Cambria and the Colourpoint Society of GB Show where he was Best Exhibit. Sandra didn't think he could top that, but the Supreme proved her wrong! |
| Angus is a clown of a cat. He loves eating flowers - real or artificial - so any floral decor spends the day in a cupboard and only comes out at night. He also likes to hide on the top of the wall units to pounce on the first human or cat that goes by.... and he loves water. He doesn't stop purring when he is bathed and he also spends a lot of time in the kitchen sink with his head under the tap. Angus is not the easiest cat to prepare for shows because, apart from always getting himself wet, he rolls about and plays with all the other cats and always seems to look scruffy. Sandra grooms him three times a day and has a brush handy in her pocket to brush his bib whenever she can because another of his little hobbies is chewing his bib. |
| A very aimiable cat who gets on with all the others at home, with never a growl, hiss or spit, Angus enjoys music by the group Sky, so Sandra plays him a tape on the way to shows. |

photo by Barrie Tackley | The Best of Variety Semi-Longhair Neuter was UK Grand Champion & Premier Klassyklogs Krafty Karess, a Tortie Point Birman bred by Jane Tackley and owned by Barrie Tackley She was the first 'new colour' Birman to attain UK Grand status, and is still the only 'new colour' female with this elusive title. She has been Best in Show adult at Birman CC Show three times - a record for an entire female.
On the minus side, she was an absolutely useless mother, far too busy doing her nails and looking in the mirror to be bothered with such boring squeaky creatures - so when she decided to produce the one and only red point female from a total of 14 kittens in 5 years, Jane kept her and spayed Karess this summer. Being so preoccupied with her natural beauty, well, the stitches and fur shaving - you can imagine - Kressie did not speak to Jane and Barrie for weeks..... They showed her in October after two years of 'retirement' and Karess made Premier in 5 weeks - on 3rd, 17th and 31st October. Next came the Supreme 1998 and she had a great day, enjoying every minute of it (even being chatted up by the bikers on the NEC mini bus!) Photocalls are her speciality, being so full of herself, and she is furious when Barrie runs out of film. | | Kressie is a frightful snob, and is famous for her letters of congratulation and advice to her 'Terribly Titled Birmans Club'. How does one join this club? - become no less than a Grand of course! She has been totally unbearable since the Supreme and is still swanning round the house, blowing raspberries at the others - and keeps nodding towards the crystal she won. Of course, being such a snob she refused to look at a mere amateur photographer on the great day - she was waiting to pose for the professionals! | | | She even glared at Marc Henrie when he photographed her in her Best in Show pen! |
| Champion Nemorez Magic Dragon, a Chocolate Silver, burmese pattern, Asian Shaded Male bred by Mrs O F Holt & Mr I Higgins and owned by Stephen Deamer was the Best of Variety Foreign Adult. |
 | "Kalie" was unbeaten as a kitten, won his first Challenge Certificate at Northern Counties in September 1998 at the tender age of 9 months 6 days and made up to Champion at the Supreme. |
| He lives with his breeders, sharing accommodation with his father, Champion Karakoram Purple Rain and a Burmese Champion Rainsong Art Deco - all three of them working studs with superb temperaments. When one of the boys leaves the others for showing or stud duties he is given a wonderful welcome when he returns to the other two. Kalie has sired two litters so far and Olive Holt has high hopes for his kittens - all very "laid back" little people just like dad - on the show bench. | |
 | UK Grand Champion & Grand Premier Parthia Black Magic, owned by Sheena Mauchline and bred by Maggie Skelton, was Best of Variety Oriental Neuter. "Maggie", as she is known at home, did quite well as a kitten, then as an adult, making up to Grand Champion on a visit to Scotland - Sheena's original home. After gaining her second UK Grand Challenge at the 1997 Supreme, Maggie was neutered and continued her winning ways, quickly making up to Premier, then Grand Premier. Despite Maggie's Best in Show wins at the Bucks, Oxon & Berks and Tabby Point Siamese & Progressive Breeders Cat Club Shows in September and October, Sheena had no great hopes for the Supreme. In fact, she was so sure that she would not win, that she did not even realise that Maggie was in the Best in Show pen; mind you, this was excusable since Maggie, in her usual fashion, was hiding under her drapes. |
| Despite her typical "evil" Oriental Black expression, Maggie is a gentle little cat and rather shy at shows, but does like to terrorise Sheena's West Highland Terrier at home, aided and abetted by a rather naughty Oriental Tortie. A loving little cat, she likes to sleep on Sheena's knee or in her bed and, if disturbed, grumbles that she still has some sleeping to do. | |
 | Marc Henrie had to dig her out from under her cushion to take a photo in the Best in Show pen! |
 | Grand Champion Janamel Pandora Patches, a Brown Tortie bred and owned by Mr & Mrs Brooks, was Best of Variety Burmese Adult. "Panny" had a successful kitten show career with 1st and Best of Breed at seven shows, a Best in Show to her credit and runner up in the 1994 Whiskas/Cats Top Kitten competition. She went on to gain 10 Challenge Certificates, 6 Reserve Grands and 6 Grands and a couple more Best in Show wins. |
| Panny is a sweet gentle cat who loves to be cuddled over a shoulder, baby-style, with her back legs dangling. Her feline companion is her cream brother, Premier Janamel Flash Dancer, but she is very much a people cat. She is a fussy eater and her favourite foods are chicken, fish and Whiskas Kitbits, but she is also partial to a sausage now and then. | |
 | The Supreme was Panny's last show as an adult and she hopes to reappear on the bench as a neuter in 1999. Her owners are very proud of her and she will always be their little star.

| The Best of Variety Foreign Kitten, Satinwood Menelek, was sired by the 1996 Supreme Adult, Supreme UK Grand Champion Mikkar Giddy Kipper, and his dam UK Grand Champion Jowetta Chantana Satinwood, made up to UK Grand on the day. Bred by Pat Bray, he was shown just once, qualifying for the Supreme, before he went off to his new home with Tony Cole and Lisa Chambers.
| |
 | Menelek and his brother were brought up as much by Kassi, a Tonkinese neuter, as by their mother Tana, but mum frequently changed her mind about where the family would be safe, so there were several sessions of "hunt the kittens". They were real little eating machines, leaping in the air to reach the plate before it was put in front of them, and grew rapidly. With the run of the house from six weeks old, their feet could be heard pounding around after one another, up the stairs, up the scratching post, up the curtains and, unfortunately, up the wall paper as well. Menelek showed signs of developing his mother's door opening skills even before he went to his new home; he has now perfected the technique and challenges human's efforts to confine him! The picture shows Menelek aged four weeks, lying across Tana, with his brother peering out of the bed. |
| Tony and Lisa's house has become so much livelier since the arrival of the little brown wonder. Opening the back door is now a race against the clock, one minute he is fast asleep upstairs the next he's tangled in your feet as you try to sneak outside. If anything ever gets knocked over or broken you can guarantee that he will be at the other side of the house wearing a look of absolute innocence. | |
 | After early settling in problems he is now the boss over the elderly black and white moggy, not to mention ruling the humans. They no longer need an alarm clock as Menelek has discovered that humans can be woken up with a gentle bite to the nose, or even better still to the toes. Attempts to shut him out of the bedroom have been in vain as his door opening abilities make nowhere inaccessible to him. |
| As the photograph demonstrates, Menelek has always aspired to be a show cat. He will do anything to be noticed from sitting in front of the
television to climbing inside the china cabinet. Despite the mischief, which just adds to his charm, it is hard to imagine life without Menelek. As he is Tony and Lisa's first show cat they are still in disbelief over the success he has had. The Supreme was beyond their wildest dreams and they are so grateful to Pat for letting them have such a beautiful cat both in looks and nature, and also her help before and on the day. Pat and Mike were great in calming and steering a pair of
absolute novices who did nothing but panic for weeks before the show! | |
 | Aranmount Oriana, owned and bred by Mrs Wilhelmina Burrows, was the Best of Variety Persian Kitten.
|
| She is a Pewter - one of the newer and less common Longhair breeds. Her sire, Rosmair Crackerjack, who is now 11 years old, is a Blue Pewter, a breed which is not yet recognised for competition. Few breeders in the UK, and even fewer overseas, specialise in Pewters. Mrs.Burrows, who has been breeding Pewters for 23 years, is one of a group of breeders who are trying to perfect this attractive breed and are hoping to get recognition for Blue Pewters as well. | |
 | At home Oriana is a lovely natured, playful girl who gets on well with the other queens and neuters, especially with the latest litter of 7-week-old kittens with whom she plays under the watchful eye of their mother. She also likes to play in the bath with a ping-pong ball or the bath plug. |
| The Best of Variety Foreign Neuter, Champion & Grand Premier Baliqui Bintang Berekor, is a Lilac Smoke & White Cornish Rex Male Neuter, owned by Peter Williams and bred by Pam Weissman. "George" gained his titles in just nine shows, following in the footsteps of big brother Gr.Ch. & UK Gr.Pr.Adhuish Anak Barong, and loves his show days, charming everyone with his temperament and his aristocratic looks. photo by Marc Henrie
| |
 | George lives in the Cotswolds, "in the middle of nowhere" with Peter, two Burmese neuters, an Asian and a small flock of hens. He loves to play running up and down the stairs - and the curtains, then all four cats snuggle up in front of the log burner together. George also loves his food but is on a constant diet because he likes everyone else's food too! He was ill after being neutered earlier this year, so Peter was especially pleased with his Supreme win. |

|
| The Best of Variety Semi-Longhair Adult was Shandatal Mr Wonderful, a Male Seal Point Birman owned by Joyce Moffatt and bred by Shirley Talboys. After a successful kitten career, including overall Best in Show at the Birman Cat Club Show, the Supreme was his only Adult show appearance (at nine months and one day old!) before being neutered three days later. He has now made up to Premier. Mr.Wonderful lives in the house with three neutered female Birmans and likes to keep his four feet firmly on the ground although he does occasionally jump onto the worktop when food is around, but definitely no higher. He likes all food, especially chicken, fish and prawns, but one of his favourite pastimes is looking for slugs in the garden after a shower. He was even more enthusiastic about this as a kitten and Joyce often had to wash the slime off his mouth and chin if she missed a slug or two on her 'slug patrol' of the garden before letting him out.
