More Details of some of the 2004 Winners

Supreme ExhibitThe Best of Variety Persian Neuter, Supreme Neuter & Supreme Exhibit was

Grand Champion & Supreme UK Grand Premier
Lindenlea Reachfor Thesky

an Orange-Eyed White Persian Male Neuter, owned by Janet Raffaelli and bred by Gail Houston

This is Buddy's second Supreme win - he was Best of Variety Persian Adult in 2001, and Gail's third - she also bred the 2003 Supreme Adult.

Janet has owned Buddy since he was neutered and has enjoyed showing him - he has such a happy nature that he is no problem to groom.

Janet says that when he loses his coat, in May, he looks like 'the cat from next door on a bad night out' - but when he comes back into coat he looks stunning.

Despite his dignified appearance on the show bench, at home he can be very different ... in the Summer he runs down to the end of the garden sideways and hops and skips - and is then chased round by Janet's Chinchilla, all in good fun.

He lives with two other cats and two dogs, all of whom he loves, and lies on the floor with them with his legs in the air. He demands his cuddle time every evening, again lying on his back, and purrs so loudly he is just like a motor bike. Janet says he is the most beautiful pet you could ever have!

Supreme Kitten

The Best of Variety Burmese Kitten & Supreme Kitten was Arabrab Tiri Tiri - a Chocolate Burmese Female owned and bred by Barbara Baylis.

Since the death of her godmother in New Zealand, all of Barbara's kittens have been given Maori names in her honour - Tiri Tiri Matanga being one of a group of islands in the Hauraki Gulf.

Barbara has only been breeding for four years and 'Laura' qualified at her first show, West of England & South Wales Cat Society, where she was Best Burmese Kitten. The Supreme was only her second show and Barbara still finds her win hard to believe.

She thanks everyone who got her involved in her hobby and all the lovely and supportive people she has met since - and looks forward to many more years doing what she loves best.

a Caramel Oriental Shaded Male Neuter, owner by Pauleen Fowler and bred by Marilynn Osman

BOV Oriental Neuter
Born in August 2002, Syd was one of a litter of three from Sensay Scaramanga (Ted) x Franvale Frangipani (Frangi). This was the last litter Marilynn bred, as her partner of 12 years died suddenly in Oct 2002 and she didn't have the heart to continue their joint hobby alone.

Fate brought Pauleen and Marilynn together when Marilynn contacted her after seeing her advert in Our Cats offering to take an Oriental in need of rehoming. She's very grateful to Pauleen for everything she's done for Syd and to Sue Yates for letting her have Sensay Scaramanga.

Syd became a Champion as a Spotted Tabby at 11 months but was then 'wrong-coloured' at his next two shows and was subsequently re-registered as a Shaded, going on to make Grand Champion at 18 months.

Back on the show bench after being neutered, Syd made Premier at 22 months, then grand Premier at 2 yrs 1 month, with several Best in Show, Best Oriental Adult and Best Oriental Neuter wins to his name, finally getting the UK Grand Premier certificate and Best of Variety at the Supreme.

Lynnox Bobby Dazzle

a Caramel Point Male Neuter, owned and bred by Lynne Gray

Best Non-Pedigree LonghairBest Non-Pedigree Longhair was Littleman Raffles, a White Male Neuter, owned by Pat Creaton & Carol Walker

Raffles arrived solely because of Pat and Carol's first 'show mog', Tanya, a traumatised rescue cat who blossomed into a white semi-longhaired beauty. She won BIS at her very first show and introduced them to the fascinating and addictive hobby of showing non-pedigree cats. At the Supreme in 1994, 1995 and 1996 Tanya won her Open on all 3 occasions and Best of Group on the latter two. She was the inspiration behind the setting up of the South Ribble Pet Cat Club, of which she was, until her sad death from cancer in April 2004, the official mascot. She was 4 years old when they got her and 17 when they lost her, and they often wondered what it would have been like to have had her as a kitten. They put out word that if one ever came along ...

And, 7 years later, along he came. His mum was an ordinary little black and white shorthair who had been found giving birth to him over a grid, he was, quite literally, born in the gutter. When they first met Raffles he was six and a half weeks old, white, semi longhaired and, not to put too fine a point on it, scruffy to say the least! His little eyes were pink rimmed as if he hadn't slept for weeks and his hair stuck out everywhere. It was love at first sight!Best Non-Pedigree Longhair
Best Non-Pedigree LonghairIn October 1998 they entered him into the Yorkshire Cat Club show where he was 1st out of 1, 2nd out of two etc., but did actually manage to beat 2 other kittens to come 3rd out of 5 in the Rescued Kitten side class. Hardly an auspicious start but Joyce Johnson (owner/breeder of the glorious "Bazi" who won the Supreme twice) remarked in her critique ' ... A lovely white baby ... who has a definite future' ...
'Littleman Raffles', so called because he tended to get called Little Man at home was entered in more shows but hardly set the world alight at first, he won one Open out of 4 in December 1998 but did not win another Open until the Lakeland & District Show in June 1999, then also went on to win Overall Best Non-Pedigree in Show! His career really took off from there, since then he has had 12 "red card" days and a total of 15 Best in Shows of one description or another together with three Overall Whiskas wins and 3 Overall Northern Non-Pedigree Stakes wins.Best Non-Pedigree Longhair
Best Non-Pedigree LonghairCarol and Pat thought he had done well on his Supreme debut in 2000 when he won his Whiskas Class and also Best of Group and although he did not win either final they were so proud of him and the way he went across the stage as if he had done it all before. He was not frightened in the slightest, the noise did not bother him at all, and at one point he just stood there with his little head held high, gazing out over the watching crowd.
But his achievement this year in becoming Best Non-Pedigree Longhair has way surpassed that and has come as close to achieving the dream of winning Supreme Non-Pedigree as they are ever likely to get! And they also feel that he did it not only for them but also for Tanya, whom they so sadly lost in April. He will now step into her pawprints as the new SRPCC Mascot, an honour he has now earned.

His story is a real gutter to glory one. The pictures show the contrast between the young urchin and the adult star and he now has his own website at www.littlemanraffles.co.uk. At home he continues to be just 'Didds', a gentle and affectionate cat with a deep purr, a sweet and generally unassuming nature and a much loved member of the furry family with whom they share their home.

The photo shows him with his celebratory 'cigar' - catnip of course!
