More Details of some of the 2003 Winners

photo by Marc Henrie | Best of Variety British Neuter, Supreme Neuter & Supreme Exhibit - Grand Champion & Supreme Grand Premier Tatleberry Tudur Red Tabby Manx male neuter, owned and bred by Jane Hellman Tudur was born in May 1994. He was one of a litter of five kittens, sired by Tatleberry Geronimo, his dam was CH and later Gr Pr Tatleberry Enfys. Three of the kittens were show quality . There was one stumpy and a tailed female as well.
|
| The tailed female went to Denmark as a breeding Queen, the stumpy went to a pet home and the two others went for show. Nearly from birth Jane had decided she would keep Tudur. Right from a small kitten he just 'had that look '.
He made up easily to champion though once he was beaten by his brother. Jane showed him to Grand Champion during which time he had a BIS British SH Adult at the SHCS show.
| |
| Jane stopped showing him when he was made up in 1997 and he did a little work but she didn't have enough work for two studs and decided to have Tud neutered. His mother Ch & Gr Pr Tatleberry Enfys was made up so Jane thought she would have a go with Tudur. When he won his third Pr certificate he was also BIS Neuter at the Shropshire Cat Club show in 2001.
He won a Gr Pr certificate in 2001 and another in 2002 both at the Supreme; Jane had decided small pens made him unhappy so took her time making him up. So, at the 2003 Supreme he won his third certificate from Celia Leighton as well as BOB, then went on to be judged for Best of Variety British Neuter, judged by Anne Gregory, which he won.... then Supreme Neuter and Supreme Exhibit! |
| Jane had decided before this show that it would be his last and it is. She says he can't do better than he has - and thanks all of this judges at the Show.
Twenty-four years ago Supreme Grand Champion Tatleberry Long John took top honours for Mrs Audrey Jameson. Johnny's sire was Gr Ch Tashmetum and Tash is liberally sprinkled throughout Tuds pedigree. Gr Ch Tashmetum was the first Manx to make Grand Champion with GCCF and was also shown at the very first Supreme Show. |

| Best of Variety British Shorthair Adult - Grand Champion Hytek Totty - British Black Tortie female, owned & bred by Peter & Catherine Darnell |
| Totty is nothing if not consistent - she was Best of Variety British Kitten in 2002! | |
| Best of Variety Foreign Adult - Glitterglam Thriller, Brown Spotted Bengal Male, owned and bred by Mr G & Mrs J Fyfe | | |
| Brown Spotted Bengals still have only Provisional status and 2003 was the first year when Provisional breeds competed against Championship status breeds for Best Of Variety at the Supreme. Prior to that they had their own knock-out competition for Best of Provisional Breeds. | |
| Best of Variety Burmese Adult - Grand Champion Chathera Khamsin, Lilac Burmese Female, owned by Pat and Maureen Hardy and bred by Hazel Willmont When Pat and Maureen got Cassie, as she is known, and her sister Suki (also Lilac) from Hazel, they always thought Cassie had more show potential - this year proved them right. |
| In a year when there were lots of lilac Burmese being shown, Cassie gained four Reserve Grand Challenge Certificates, two Grand Challenge Certificates, Best of Variety at the Lincoln CC Show and, of course, Best of Variety Adult at the 2003 Supreme Show. In addition she was awarded Best of Breed on six occasions. The Hardys had an excellent day at the Supreme as Ailsa, their home-bred Cream Burmese, made up to UK Grand Champion. Both Cassie and Ailsa are blessed with very sunny temperaments and judges find them a joy to handle. Cassie's super temperament was clearly apparent during judging at the Supreme. | |
| |
| Best of Variety Persian Kitten - Brylou Vertitoo, Tortie Tabby Exotic Female, owned and bred by Louvane Stevenson Vertitoo, as her name suggests, is following in the footsteps of her father - Supreme Grand Champion Westholme Inthe Vertical, who was Supreme Adult in 2002 | |
| Best of Variety British Shorthair Kitten - Gargantua Dreamcatcher, Lilac Colourpointed British Shorthair Male, owned and bred by Geoff and Deb Wills He is the result of an accidental mating! And what an accident! His dad , Champion Gargantua Caspar, had been ill and returned home after a week in the vets. Geoff and Deb felt sorry for him and as his problem had involved treatment on his 'male bits' they thought that it would be safe to allow him to stay in the house for a few days with their girls rather than return to his run outside. | |
|
How wrong they were! Despite everything he (unknown to them) mated Gargantua Pink Perfuma and she had a litter of 3 kittens. Unfortunately his dad had to be neutered as a result of his illness so they decided to keep the male kitten in the litter. They called him Gargantua Dreamcatcher as they hoped he would catch the dream that his dad's premature neutering halted. However he became known as 'Baby David' by Geoff (a fan of the comedy series 'The Royle Family') and the name stuck with their friends in the Cat Fancy. | | 'Dave' as he is now called (he's grown you see!) had an outstanding show career in the run up to the Supreme. His first show was the Wyvern Cat Show where he had a 'Red Card Day', Best of Breed and Best in Show British Kitten. This was followed by another 'Red Card Day', Best of Breed and Best in show British Kitten at the South West Counties show and finally another 'Red Card Day', Best of Breed and Best in Show British Kitten at the Kensington Kitten and Neuter Show. | | | Although very shy at shows, Dave is always up to mischief at home. His best friend and partner in crime is his dad, Caspar. The photos left and below show Dave and Caspar in their 'quiet moments'. They have worked out how to open the tumble drier and love to sleep on top of the lovely warm, clean, washing when the cycle has finished. Dave's favourite toy is a screwed up Lottery ticket. If Geoff and Deb ever win 'The Big One' on a Saturday he will be so disappointed not to have his paper ball to chase! |
| His winning Best of Variety at the Supreme is something Geoff and Deb never imagined but are so proud of him. He did it for his dad. | |
| Best of Variety Foreign Kitten - Sebbitiboo Wolfsbane, Cream Tabby & White Cornish Rex Male, owned by Sue Pyrke and her son Josh, and bred by Judy Picknell |
| Wolfie, as he is known to his friends, came to Sue by chance rather than any great plan. When his breeder, Judy Picknell, made a birth announcement she joked with her for trying to tempt her with a Cream boy when everyone knows how partial Sue is to Reds and Creams! Well, several mails and photos later they made the decision to take him on as their future stud boy. When Judy said he was 'pick of the litter' Sue thought it was a slick marketing ploy - how wrong was she! | |
| Wolfie is F5 from a non-pedigree outcross and the result of many years work by both Judy and Jan Cross (Rastacat) out crossing and importing to counter inbreeding and extend the Cornish Rex gene pool. He is a seriously BIG lad - one of the benefits of out crossing Judy says - a 9lb heavyweight at 7 months and still growing! | |
| Sue's son, Josh, had been pining for a cat of his own for some time so they decided a half share would be a good start. They had to choose a very special name for this boy which proved tricky but (eventually) obvious. From the Supreme 2002 they won the Purina draw of a trip to visit the wolves in Bavaria with Peter Neville. To remember their trip they mixed the Wolf and their prefix Bane to come up with Wolfsbane (just don't tell Josh or Wolfie that the plant is actually a member of the Buttercup family ...). |
| At home Wolfie has recently gone from being a mummy's boy to a skirt chaser - chasing the girls is his favourite hobby although he hasn't quite worked out what to do with them once he catches them! With his human family he is a little more genteel and is basically just a big cuddly teddy bear. One of his favourite positions is on his back so that he can receive a good old raspberry on his curly belly. Apparently he has inherited this soppiness from his dad and Sue and Josh hope he will continue to pass it down to his offspring.
The Supreme was only Wolfie's second show and they were overwhelmed by his success. Of course, Sue should have known he would do well as her late friend Anne, on first seeing his picture, exclaimed that he was something unique and Sue would be foolish to turn him down. Anne didn't make it to the Supreme as intended as she passed away just after Wolfie qualified but she would have been justifiably proud of 'her' exceptional boy.
| Best of Variety Oriental Kitten - Pippastro Moonliteshadow, Black Silver Shaded Oriental Longhair (Angora) Female, owned and bred by Pippa Browning Known at home as Mimi, (her name comes from her incessant me, me, me, me, me), she is rather fond of shredding things. By the time judging was finished, she had demolished three pen numbers and totally destroyed the 'Congratulations' note in her pen! |
| Best of Variety Persian Neuter - Premier Sibirica Golden Lola, Golden Persian Female Neuter, owned by Pamela Ambrose and bred by Mrs B J Harle
Known as Lola or Lo to her friends, she was born in August 2002 |
| As a kitten she won Best of Breed at the Cambridgeshire Cat Club Show, followed by winning Premier certificates and Best of Breed at the Lincolnshire Cat Club and Bucks, Oxon & Berks Cat Soc. She made up to Premier at the Supreme and then gained her first Grand for her Best of Variety win
| | | Lola is a very curious cat and has managed to get herself stuck in all sorts of places since she was a kitten, behind cupboards, under units, in wardrobes etc. She loves sitting in the kitchen sink.
Lola is fun loving and devoted to her brother Charlie - they are never far away from each other unless she is at a show. She has a wonderful nature and is extremely affectionate.
Lola enjoys being groomed and loves being shown, she is a little poser, a real Princess and knows it! What a show girl! |
| Best of Variety Foreign Neuter - Grand Premier Honpuss Ziggy Stardust, Caramel Silver Asian Ticked Tabby Male Neuter, owned by Dee Cowell and bred by Sandra Woodley It was a good day for Sandra, as Ziggy's mum, Honpuss Silver Willow, made up to UK Grand Champion.
Ziggy is one of those cats who loves to charm people and he will win over the hardest heart with the way he turns and curls his head at you, purring continuously. He is rather like a laid back California surfer - nothing bothers him. |
| |
| He has an enormous sense of humour and likes to stalk you, get his back legs ready, then charge. He investigates everything, and entertains himself by tossing his toys in the air, then chasing them and rolling over and over with them. He thinks he is a human and tries to help with whatever his humans are doing, especially on the computer. No lap is safe from him. He loves a piece of string, which he drags up and down the stairs behind him, tail held high, as if he was dragging some prey he had killed. All in all a fabulous cat. |
| |
| Best of Variety Burmese Neuter - UK Grand Champion & Grand Premier Minahto Shizukana, Lilac Burmese Female Neuter, owned and bred by Gill Allen Suki, as she is known at home, was born in March 1995, one of the seven kittens in the first ever litter Gill bred, out of Ch Julibu Twitter Glitter (27c) and Gr Ch Typha Queens Nighte (27b). Suki was soon bringing home red cards and Best of Breed rosettes and after only a few shows, judge Jenny Cunningham described her as 'a Grand Champion in the making'. | |
| Suki's name Shizukana is Japanese for 'calm' and this describes her character absolutely. She shares the house with three other Burmese and a Bengal. She has a way of curling up and sleeping through the worst noise, watches the hoover with disdain, and can't imagine she isn't wanted when she climbs in on top of the rest of the cat family who are quite comfortable without her, thank you very much! |
| In April 2002 Suki nearly died from a pregnancy-related illness. After two operations and 2 weeks at the vet, a very thin, spayed weakling came home and it was touch-and-go if she would survive. But between September 2002 and November 2003 Suki made Grand Premier in just 7 shows. Every title and win has been dedicated to her vet, Gerard Clarke, who refused to give up on her. | |
| Until the Supreme 2003, Suki's greatest success was at the 2003 Burmese Cat Club show, where she was Overall Best in Show. She was also a member of the Runners Up team in the Breeder's Cup competition - her team-mates were her daughter, Gr Ch Minahto Asobizuki (Biba - owned by Gordon and Pat Ridley) and her younger brother UK Gr Pr Minahto SonofNighte (Milo - owned by Kay and Peter Wiltshire). |
| Gill's thanks go to Rosie and Barrie Alger-Street without whom she would never have entered the world of showing, and who have been towers of support along the way, and to Julie and Ian Bryer for her first Burmese, Min and Pickle! Here is Suki with her Supreme rosettes and commemorative plaque. | |
| Best of Variety Oriental Neuter - UK Grand Champion & Premier Amenra Beau Bruin, Havana Male Neuter, owned by Pam Wilding and bred by Carol Ward In 2001 and 2002, Beau Bruin was Best of Variety Oriental Adult, so is making rather a habit of winning: we are thinking of charging rental on the Best in Show pen! |
| | | Best of Variety Siamese Neuter - Champion & Premier Mapu Lordsebastian Flyte, Cream Point Siamese Male Neuter, owned by Karen Duffy and bred by Gina Baughan |
| Best Non-Pedigree Longhair & Supreme Non-Pedigree Exhibit was Billy Bean a Black Male Neuter, owned by Pam and Lesley Potter |

| Best Non-Pedigree Shorthair was Susannah, a Tortie & White Female , owned by Linda Hutchinson
Linda adopted Susanna from Ely Cats Protection, together with her sister, Lucia. Torties have always been her favourite cats and Linda could not resist this little purring, playful bundle. Susanna entered her first cat show at 4 months of age, winning Best in Show Kitten. She followed this with two more BIS Kitten and an Overall Non-Pedigree title. Linda came to the Supreme with the ambition of Susanna winning the Tortie class. To have achieved this, then Best in Group and Best Shorthair was beyond her wildest dreams. At home, Susannah is everything a 'naughty tortie' should be. She loves people, is boss over the dogs and other cats and totally fearless. The cat-proof fencing keeps all of Linda's other cats safely in the garden but not Susanna. She has challenged the manufactuers to produce a Susanna-proof fence!
