Best of Variety Burmese Adult, Supreme Adult & Supreme Exhibit Supreme UK Grand Champion Oakenshield Buster Bertie Red Burmese male owned by Nichola Bass and bred by Carolyn Kempe
| Bertie was born on 24th July 1999 and Nichola became his proud owner on 24th October 1999. She says he has been a character right from the start and is a pleasure to own. |
| He is totally laid back and nothing bothers him, he gets on well with Nichola's three other Burmese cats, three Labradors, one Parson Russell Terrier and a 3 1/2 year old little boy. They live on a farm and he goes for walks across the fields on a harness and extending lead with them and all the dogs, which he
thoroughly enjoys. | |
| His show career started on 4th December 1999 and since then he has had a fantastic career. He was unbeaten in his open classes as a kitten and at his last kitten show, Cambridgeshire Cat Club 2000, he was best in show Burmese kitten. photo by Alan Robinson | | One kitten class win Nichola is particularly proud of is the Miranda von Kirchberg class at the Southern Counties Show January 2000 which is for all varieties of cats pedigree and non pedigree; it is judged on temperament, condition and presentation, there were 33 kittens entered and Bertie won the class. | |
| He went into his adult career and became a Champion at the age of 10 1/2 months in his first three consecutive shows. He then went on to Grand Champion status again in three consecutive shows at the age of 13 months 9 days making him, Nichola believes, the youngest ever Burmese Grand Champion under GCCF rules. During his career he has won 10 Challenge Certificates, 7 Grand Challenge Certificates and several Best in Show nominations | | The Supreme Show 2001 is a day Nichola will never forget and a dream come true, certainly something that she never thought she would experience. For her, she says, it was better than winning the Lottery or Who Wants to be a Millionaire! By winning the show Bertie has become Supreme UK Grand Champion and Nichola believes he is the first Burmese to hold this title. Since the show he has appeared on Anglia TV news and in the local newspapers, taking the whole thing in his stride.

| | | Bertie was already entered for one more show, but after that he is going to retire 'at the top'! Nichola would like to thank all his judges who have thought so highly of him, the Supreme show organisers for all their hard work on making it such a fantastic day, Whiskas for the wonderful trophies and prizes and everyone who has sent cards and messages of congratulations.

Best of Variety Semi-Longhair Neuter & Supreme Neuter Champion & Supreme Premier Kalemyo Klawsforapplause Seal Tabby Point Birman male neuter owned and bred by Vivienne Lee
| | | On the show bench he won 7 kitten Open classes and 5 Best of Breeds. He was Best in Show Semi-Longhair Kitten at both the Longhair & Semi-Longhair Show and the Capital Longhair Show. He was the Birman Cat Club top kitten for show year 2000/2001 as well as top Tabby point kitten and Seal Tabby point kitten for that year, plus top kitten for the Longhair & Semi-Longhair Cat Club and the Northern Birman Cat Club.
| | He then had a period of adolescent growth before achieving his Championship at 15 months. On the morning of the Supreme show he was entered as a Champion and came home as a Champion and Supreme Premier ... and is the first Birman to hold the Supreme title. Vivienne says he is a lovable rascal at home and thinks all the kittens are his. He is always washing and playing with them. On show morning Vivienne could not find him until she looked at the kittens and there he was with them, sharing their breakfast. | |
| He is still wondering what all the fuss was about at the weekend and has taken it all in his stride, which is more than his owner can say. |
Best of Provisional Breeds Neuter & Supreme Provisional Breed Exhibit Craigdhu Hell Raiser Golden British Tipped male owned and bred by Kevin & Pam Duncanson |
Benny at 2 weeks old |
| After a period of two years of carefully planned matings, the Duncansons knew that the imminent litter had a one in four chance of bringing them their first, longed for, Golden Tipped. Kevin was, as always, in charge of the delivery! As each baby was born he let Pam know that the first, second and third kittens were all black tipped. She had really given up hope that they would get the golden that they hoped for. The last baby was finally born and Kevin cupped it gently in his hands and brought it over for Pam to see. The most beautiful Golden Tipped baby lay in his hands - Benny had arrived! | | As he grew and filled his chunky frame, his slightly marked coat started to even out and become denser. He is now two and has developed a wonderful short dense coat and lovely British stature. He is a big softy and is forever rolling over to let you rub his tummy!
He has sired some lovely babies, and Kev and Pam have kept his daughter Craigdhu Atomic Kitten from whom they hope to keep Benny's line alive, as he is now neutered. |

| Best of Variety Persian Adult Grand Champion Lindenlea Reachfor Thesky Orange-eyed White Persian male owned by Ann Stallings and bred by Gail Houston | | To date, Buddy has won 8 Challenge Certificates, 5 Grands, 2 kitten and 13 adult Best of Breeds and a UK Grand Challenge. He was Best Longhair Kitten at Bucks, Oxon & Berks 2000, Longhair 'Christmas Cracker' at Maidstone & Medway 2000, Best of Variety Longhair Adult at Southern Counties 2001 and Best in Show Longhair at Three Counties 2001 | | Buddy is a quiet youngster who plods round Ann's flat like a white teddy bear with huge eyes. His feet are also huge, with fur tufts which look like slippers. As he does not spray yet, Ann hopes to keep him entire for a while, although he will never be a stud cat and lives in her flat with her four other cats and some Russian Dwarf Hamsters | | | Buddy always sits bolt upright on his side of the two-seater settee like a little soldier, with Ann at the other side, but he hops to her side every time Ann gets up .... and he does claw the settee, with a 'I know I shouldn't be doing this' expression on his face. He has a beautiful disposition, on which he has been complimented by his judges, and Ann has never heard him spit at any other cat. He never goes out, but likes to watch the garden birds through the window. left - Buddy as a kitten, photo supplied by Gail Houston |
Best of Variety Semi-Longhair Adult UK Grand Champion Kaiulani Jakatta Jackson Brown Tabby Maine Coon male owned by Sue Deane and bred by Mrs D EverettCharlie was actually bred by Jackie Huddleston - but she didn't manage to transfer mum before the litter were born!
| Best of Variety British Adult Grand Champion Positively Diarmuid Duibne British Black male owned and bred by Les & Ann Stubbs | | | Ann says 'Diarm' is a wonderfully gentle boy but also an excellent stud boy. He got his 1st UK Grand at his first attempt at this Supreme. He was also Best of Variety British at The National Cat Club in its centenary year and again in 2001 |
| Best of Variety Foreign Adult UK Grand Champion Donillium Phabio Blue & White Cornish Rex male owned by Jackie Green and bred by Mr D Dickson & Mr W LeePhabio became a UK Grand at the 2000 Supreme and had not been on the show bench since then. He is not an easy stud cat to own as he loathes being outside, and prefers to sleep in the bed; luckily he does not spray so can live indoors. | | Jackie says he is very reserved at home but loved his day at the Supreme and purred all day long. His daughter Gr Pr Erpet Hester Kerris was awarded her first UK Grand as well so it was a wonderful family day | |
| Best of Variety Siamese Adult Grand Champion Palmira Swanky Silhouette Seal Tabby Point Siamese female owned by Sue & Mark Turner and bred by Pat Shand | | When her friend Pat phoned Sue to say she had a wonderful litter of kittens, Sue flew up to Aberdeen - and Lulu came down from the 'frozen North' to join Sue's other three cats in Essex - Shermese Candy, her daughter Gr Ch Swanky Hanky Panky and Swanky Susie Anna who has never been to a show but is the mother of many super Grands. | | | Lulu settled in beautifully ... and set off on her show career - Grand Champion at 16 months old and Best in Show seven times. | | When resting between shows, Lulu enjoys healthy outdoor exercise. She includes a pigeon among her hunting trophies and has had numerous tussles with seagulls! | |
| Best of Variety Persian Kitten Barleyfields Philadelphus Orange-eyed White Persian female owned and bred by Jean Stewart | | Philadelphus qualified at her very first show and had a red card day at Northern Counties. To Jean's delight she went Best of Breed at Yorkshire and West of Scotland before becoming Best of Variety at the Supreme. | |
| Best of Variety Burmese Kitten Whitrigg Poison Ivy Brown Tortie Burmese female owned and bred by Mr J R & Mrs F L Benstead | | Fran says she could write a book about Poison's personality; she has been stealing socks yet again and can chew through a pair faster than any puppy if she gets into the laundry basket. She has also stolen the dog's Bakers Complete yet again, you would think that the lumps were too big for her to chew, maybe it's what gives her a shiny coat. | | She was named Poison Ivy as all the kittens were named with a P in that litter (all 7 of them) and Fran tried lots of 'nice' names like posy and poppy, but by 8 weeks old she was answering to Poison and it stuck. Fran works in a school and deals with children with severe behavioural problems; after the Show, Poison went for a visit and, typical Burmese, swaggered around while they did their work. The severe learning difficulties group came for a look and of course loved the way they could pet her, and the shouts of glee didn't bother her at all (well, after the Supreme it was nothing!) Fran takes her dog in regularly as she believes in the therapeutic effects of animals, and Poison will now be a regular visitor too. She is the Benstead's 4th generation of home bred Burmese and they also have her grandad. | |
| Best of Variety Persian Neuter Premier Kittyville Yakety Yak Red & White Bi-Colour Persian male neuter owned by Brenda White and bred by her daughter, Debbie Dyer | | From 6 shows in 2001 Yakky came away with 5 Best of Breeds, 4 Premier Certificates and a Grand Premier Certificate as well as his Best of Variety win. Two shows were 'red card' days and he was Best Longhair in Show at the West of England & South Wales Championship Show photo by Waz
| |
| Yakky will 'give you 5' when he wants a tickle. Ask for a kiss and he will oblige. He comes into the room and flops down in front of you for a tummy tickle. He is also a media star having appeared in the local Plymouth newspaper after his best in show win. He is Brenda's first ever show cat and she adores him - as well as being delighted with his win. photo by Waz

| Best of Provisional Breeds Kitten Magnacata Flyme Tothemoon Brown Silver Shaded Burmese Pattern Tiffanie male owned and bred by Jennifer Ray, who also bred the 2000 Provisional Breed Kitten | | Jennifer says 'Star', like all Tiffanies, is madly in love with himself but he's not particularly intelligent, except when it comes to persuading her to give him attention (perhaps falling in the swingbin every hour is more intelligent than she first thought. It may even be a deliberate strategy to get her to pick him up - strange how he only does it when she is at home....). Star's litter was planned after Jennifer realised that Magnacata Mandarin Emperor, following his success at the Supreme 2000, was doing very well on the show bench. Star's mother, Magnacata Marena Moondance, is the full sister of Magnacata Moondust Mohawk, Mandarin Emperor's father. Star's father, Magnacata Nikita, is the half brother of Coomakista Nyree Dawn, the mother of Mandarin Emperor, so perhaps it is fitting that Star followed in the footsteps of Mandarin Emperor! | |
| Best Non-Pedigree Shorthair & Supreme Non-Pedigree Exhibit Monty Ginger male neuter owned by Laura Fleming-Wood
| | Laura says Monty is a cat 'to die for' - he is almost perfect. He gets on with the other 10 cats in the household - never a raised paw - and has been known to 'father' any new additions. He does like to wake her up between 6 and 6.30 in the morning, purring, kissing and walking all over her until she gets up. Monty also likes gardening, such as moving the seedlings and bedding to another place! | | | "That was some party that was!!" Monty at 6 months old, with his half-brother Oliver | | Laura started showing Monty when he was six months old and he has rarely missed winning his Open class ever since. He has been Best in Show on numerous occasions. In 1994 he was a runner-up in the Whiskas Final and he became the Whiskas Champion Non-Pedigree winner in 2000. He also featured as Mr November in the Friskies millennium calendar that year. For Monty to become the Supreme Non-Pedigree Exhibit at nine years old was indeed a wonderful climax. | |
