Why not design your own new cat breed?

Who needs genetics when, in the twinkling of a mouse, you can design a new breed!

Siwegie Van Cat
The Siwegie Van Cat was the 1997 winner, but there have been so few entries since then that there hasn't been a competition, just a gallery of interesting cats, so why don't you have a go:
  1. Choose a breed from the list box.

  2. Hold down the mouse button (left mouse button for PCs) while slowly rubbing where part of the cat should appear.

  3. Click on the eraser to white out unwanted areas, or click Clear to start again.

  4. The "paint" sometimes comes out dark to start with, especially if you don't wait for the new cat brush to finish loading fully: don't worry - the cat brush will soon cover it.

For instance, choose Abyssinian and rub the mouse pointer on the "canvas" where the head should be to "paint" an Aby head, then choose Siamese and rub where the body should be to add a Siamese body.... until you have produced your own "new breed".

This is based on the CelebrityPainter applet from the Java for Dummies CD ROM.

The applet may take some time to load and changing brushes takes a while too, so please be patient.

Sorry about the starting canvas - it was designed for human portraits, not cat "breeding" and, although I've learnt how to use Java applets, I certainly don't know how to tweak their code! You can white it out before you start by using the eraser, but clicking on "clear" only brings it back again!

When you have designed your own top winner, please submit it for the gallery

Supreme Design-A-Cat

Choose a breed from the list to "paint" with.
You can see the available breeds to the right below.

Sorry - this won't work without Java.

But even if you cannot enter the competition,
you can still view the gallery it.

Persian Turkish Van NFC
British SH Abyssinian Devon Rex
Burmese Oriental Siamese

For some reason this does not appear to work with Opera on a Mac - sorry!

Supreme Design-A-Cat Competition

When you have completed your "breeding" to your satisfaction, "snapshot" your screen, "cut out" the picture from the rest of the clutter on your desktop, and e-mail it to me, preferably in GIF or JPEG format so that I can upload it without further conversion.

Alternatively, if you have your own web pages you can put the picture up there, on a new page if you wish, and email me the URL so that I can save it from your page and upload it to the gallery.

Please also include your name, the country where you live, your return email address and, most important, the name of the breed you have created.

Your picture will be displayed in the gallery.

Don't forget to read the Rules.
